Tier 1 and Tier 2 Explained in more detail:

The ICRI Concrete Slab Moisture Testing Certification program has
two tiers:

• Tier 1 for those who are not regularly engaged in slab moisture testing, yet have an active interest in learning more about the tests, what the tests mean, and how the tests should be performed.
• Tier 2 applicants are those who seek full certification.
Both tiers require attendance at a 3-hour educational session, followed by a written exam. Tier 2 full certification applicants will also be required to perform each of the four applicable ASTM tests before a qualified judge who will not provide any level of coaching.
There are two ways to pre-qualify for acceptance into the Tier 2 program:

1. With previous hands-on moisture testing experience, as approved by ICRI.
2. Taking the ‘Demonstration and Workshop’. See below for details.

TIER 1

This Concrete Slab Moisture Testing Educational Program, and the accompanying written examination, is open to anyone. Those who successfully complete this portion of the program (including passing the written examination) will be awarded a Certificate of Achievement from ICRI.
TIER 2
This full certification program, ICRI Concrete Slab Moisture Testing Technician--Grade 1, consists of the same 3-hour educational session, a written exam, and a field testing performance exam. By passing both the written and field testing performance exams, an ICRI Concrete Slab Moisture Testing Technician--Grade 1 certification will be issued by ICRI and each individual will receive a certificate and wallet card. They can also be added to the ICRI Certified Concrete Slab Moisture Testing Technician (CCSMTT) database on the ICRI website if desired. Pre-qualification for acceptance into the Tier 2 full certification program is required and is based on the applicant's previous hands-on moisture testing experience, which must be approved by ICRI. Applicants for Tier 2 must provide previous experience information on the Registration Form.

Demonstration and Workshop (optional)

As an option, applicants desiring Tier 2 without previous hands-on slab moisture testing experience, or applicants who wish to enhance their slab moisture testing ability, may take the Demonstration and Workshop. All four ASTM tests included in the certification program will be demonstrated with opportunity for hands-on testing and training by the instructors/judges. Participation in this session will fulfill the requirement of previous hands-on slab moisture testing experience necessary for acceptance into the Tier 2 full certification program.

Recertification also available.
